G major is, like C major, is one of the most common keys in which music is written. The only black key that is played in the G major scale is F#, all the other notes fall on white keys. Just like all major scales, the G major scale consists of these seven notes (scale degrees): G (1st degree/root), A (2nd degree), B (3rd degree), C (4th degree), D (5th degree), E (6th degree) and F# (7th degree).

G Major Scale – RIGHT & LEFT HAND Positions:

Start with both of your 1st fingers (thumbs) on the G right below middle C. With your right hand ascending the scale, swing your 1st finger underneath your palm and play the
4th degree on middle C with that 1st finger. With your left hand descending the scale, swing your 1st finger underneath your palm and play the 5th degree on the D an octave below middle C with that 1st finger. This is the correct way to utilize the five-finger position while playing the G major scale.
